The function of family security is closely related to the modes of family structure. The role of family security is constantly enhanced with the expanding of the family system, while its role is weakened with the shrinking of the family system on the ground that the average personal income and insurance cost stay the same. In current China, the traditional family security system is greatly challenged by the undergoing movements of Chinese family structures, the ageing of the population structure as well as the changes of people's attitudes towards marriage and family.
