The evolution of the phage genome is similar to that of other species and can be classified into two types: gradual and explosive. The explosive evolution can be explained by the module evolution theory: gene or protein evolution is not through continuous substitution of single nucleotide or amino acid, but through the assembly of nucleotide segment of protein polypeptide.The results of evolution show the phage genome is in the mosaic structure and that the genome sequence changes significantly at both ends.
