In the matrimonial history of the Naxi nationality, marriage, which is a means of forming social forces and of maintaining economic balance, heavily relies on the selection of the spouse. The Naxis have four matrimonial systems, that is, the hierarchal endogamy among the Tusi members for political alliances, the endogamy among the members of the local Naxis for national unity, the exogamy for excluding the members of the close relatives and the regional endogamy, which are mutually supplementary and in co-existence.
