Male-leaving marriage is a special marriage custom of Naxi Ethnic Minority, which has so far remained in areas near Lugu Lake, such as Yongning, Yanyuan, Eya and so on.In the relationship of male-leaving marriage, lovers stay together at night while departing in the morning.Moreover, this marriage pattern views true love and feelings as the unique link of the marriage instead of material interests.It is widely spread among Naxi people living in the region bordering both Yunnan and Sichuan Province.The reasons of the existence of male-leaving marriage are as follows: they are confined to relatively enclosed geographical environment, meanwhile under the control of local administrative head for a long time. What's more, they aim to maintain a harmonious extended family, and keep the freedom of marriage. In addition, it is a compensation for polygamy.
