在现代化进程中,中国少数民族的发展呈现出双重性,其一是经济趋同于主流社会;其二是表意文化呈现出明显的特化特征。首先,由于少数民族经济的发展水平低于汉族,其经济要发展,就会呈现出经济模式趋同于汉族的现象;其次,在现代化的过程中,民族表意文化上的差异也成了经济发展的资源之一,并越来越成为旅游业和少数民族经济依赖的重要组成部分,因此,少数民族的表意文化不仅不会在经济趋同中趋同于汉族,反而会强化,甚至重新创造、诠释和建构,并以此作为其经济发展的支柱而扩展,故呈现出表意文化上的特化。

In the course of the modernization, the Chinese ethnic groups have tended to bear a duality, with one being the economic convergency with the main stream of the society and the other being the characterization of the ethnic ideographic cultures. The economic development of the ethnic people obviously lags behind the Han’s so that their economic modes will eventually converge with the latter’s. During the modernization, the differences in the ethnic ideographic cultures have become the important resources of economic development because they are playing a great role in economic activities, particularly tourism. In this sense, the ethnic ideographic cultures will not converge with the Han’s but will become intensified or even recreated, reinterpreted and restructured. Moreover, they will be further developed to benefit the economy with specific ethnic features.
