回鹘文契约中出现过“babitig”与汉字“元契”，山田信夫认为这两个词是同义词，但是，他不清楚汉文中是否有“元契”这样的词。他认为如果没有的话，这可能是住在吐鲁番的汉人汉译的东西，即把“babitig”译成“元契”。笔者认为，虽然回鹘文契约中出现汉字“元契”是偶然现象，但它与汉唐至宋元时代汉文契约中的券、元券、契、市契、元买、上手等一系列词汇有着割舍不断的渊源关系。

英语语境:

The “bas bitig” and the Chinese characters “元契(yuanqi)” which occurred in Huihu contracts are taken as synonyms by Yamada Nobuo, a Japanese scholar, but he can't decide whether "元契" is an expression in Chinese or not. He thinks that, if there isn't such an expression, then it might be a translation of "bas bitig" made by the Chinese in Turufan. The author thinks that, although the occurrence of the Chinese characters “元契” in Huihu contracts might be taken as accidental, it was inseparably related to the series of expressions like ticket, first ticket, contract, market contract, first purchase, and first sale in Chinese contracts in the Han, the Tang, the Song and the Yuan Dynasty.
