In his theory of mind Hayek makes a differentiation between the phenomenal and the physical order. Hayek'thesis is derived from his rebel against Mach. According to Hayek, Mach's monism of sensory elements as well as his mind-body parallelism has a reductionist tendency that they reduce the psychological sciences to the physical ones. For this reason Hayek re-elucidates the task of psychology on the basis of the differentiation between the two orders.
