Lermontov, the most talented Russian poet in the 19th century, created 27 epics in his short life, most of which have shown great artistic achievements and have an important place in the history of Russian poetry, especially of Russian epics. A lot of research has been done into the analysis of Lermontov’s epics such as The Novice, Demon, and so on. However, little attention has been paid to the general picture of his epics. In general, five distinctive features can be identified in Lermontov’s poems, that is, legend-oriented subject matter, various structures, fixed point of view, characteristic figures, and remarkable landscape. The combination of the five elements above makes Lermontov genius in Russia.
