傣语、壮语、泰语等语言，同属壮傣语支，因此这些民族语的地名通名有许多共性，而且傣族和泰族后来在文化上接触频繁，而且都信仰小乘佛教，都从巴利语中借进了一些通名；这些民族在形成过程中又经历了各自的发展，所以地名通名呈现出一定的差异。
英语语境:
Languages of Zhuang, Thai and Dai belong to Zhuang-Dai language branch. Therefore, the geographical names of these ethnic languages have much in common. Furthermore, Peoples of Thai and Dai make frequent cultural communication and both believe in Hinayana Buddhism. They receive some geographical names from Pali. However, because of the different development process of the formation of these nationalities, a certain difference is shown in their geographical names.
