Based on the vast data, the founding background of the Central Institute of the Geological Survey is illustrated. The purpose, characteristics and history of the geological journals are studied from the materials collected so far. The result shows that the journals published by the Central Institute of the Geological Survey are the earliest ones in geology field in China. The large number of historical data of geological science recorded in those journals had laid a great foundation for Chinese Geology.
