人际间的交流往往是通过两种形式进行的：1、语言 2、非语言。前者固然是很重要的形式，后者的作用也不可忽略，他对语言起着重要的辅助作用。如人们在交际时，除发出有声语言外，还经常伴随着体态语、副语言、客体语、环境语等非语言。美国人类学家伯德斯特尔认为至少百分之六十五的交际信息是由非语言方式传递的。不同的非语言行为在不同的文化背景下所表示的内含不尽相同，跨文化交际中的非语言交际的冲突也日益显露。
英语语境:
Generally speaking, human beings communicate with others in two ways, verbal and nonverbal. The former one is no doubt a very important form of communication, but we cannot neglect the latter one, which serves as an important complement to the former one. People, besides making a sound, often include some nonverbal factors such as body language, paralanguage, object language and environmental language when communicating with others. American anthropologist Birdwhistell claims that at least 65 percent of the information is conveyed through nonverbal communication. Different nonverbal behaviors have different meanings in different cultures so conflicts frequently appear in cross-cultural nonverbal communication.
