New readers, viewers, or listeners come into the medium, and others drop out:just as people become new brand users and ex-brand users. The "leaky-bucket" analogy applies to media as well as to products. The coming-in and going-out process in media is called audience turnover. It is determined by dividing the cumulative net audience by the average per broadcast (or issue) audience.
