作为一种公认的“有害信息”，谣言的本质、社会心理根源以及传播规律一直未能得到中国学术界客观全面的考察与评价。在国内外（主要是国外）文献综述的基础上，并结合笔者近期所做的一系列实证研究，本研究尝试着对谣言的性质以及互联网给谣言带来的影响做一次反思。本研究认为，在一定程度上，谣言未必是洪水猛兽。

英语语境:

As a kind of well-recognized harmful information, the definition, social psychological origins and communication principles of rumors have never been thoroughly examined by researchers in China. Based on literature review (mainly from the West) and a serial of empirical studies that we recently conducted, this study attempts to rethink the social functions of rumors and the influences of the Internet on rumors. We argue that in certain degree, rumors are not definitely evil monsters.
