At present, chorography, which still belongs to the area of special history studies, is the third-level sub-discipline. The low status leads to a series of problems in discipline construction, academic researches, talent cultivation and research team cooperation, etc. It is difficult for the academic research to provide adequate theoretical supports for the compilation of local chronicles, which has become the bottleneck for the further development of local chronicles. If chorography can be the second-level sub-discipline, and be constructed from five aspects like the theory of local chronicles, the compilation of local chronicles, the arrangement of old local chronicles, the researches on local districts and the compilation of almanacs, the theory of chorography and the problems in the practice of the compilation of local chronicles can be researched deeply, then the quality of the compilation of local chronicles must be enhanced and the development of the discipline will be promoted as well.
