图书上架后,书脊是选取图书直接而重要的信息源。书脊加工就是以某种方式将作为图书排检标识的索书号加印在书脊的特定部位,供读者因类查寻图书时使用。目前,书脊加工一般都是采用粘贴书标的方法,其优点是美观、整齐,然而这种方法也有其致命的缺点,一是粘贴不牢固，二是遮挡书脊的主要信息源。

The back-lining is usually adopted by attaching the call number to the back of books for the sake of readers’ inquiring service. At present, the backing usually adopts the method of labeling with elegant appearance, but there are also two fatal flaws. One of the two defects is that the label is unstable; the other defect is that the label may shield the information of books.
