There exist anti-intellectual attitudes and phenomena in the mass communication, which have affected the image of mass media, the quality of media content and the promotion of audience literacy. Starting from the concept of anti-intellectualism, this paper explores such aspects of anti-intellectualism in the mass communication as, anti-rationalism, anti-elitism, utilitarianism and over-entertainment. Besides it examines the root of anti-intellectualis, which lies in the changes of society and the rip between technique and civilization. In the end, the paper advances that intellectual pursuit in the mass communication may present in three aspects:playing the role of intellectuals in mass communication, being an intelligent media and promoting media literary and civic education.
