Students'self-government, a viewpoint of Dewey's "indirect" moral education, typically complied with the American social movements and political ideas, which was widely accepted in students'management. Dewey had introduced it personally in China after the May Fourth Movement, and his view failed to be localized despite its preliminary acknowledgement and the emergence of students'self-governing units. Some failures occurred because of students'unaccustomed adaptability, and inefficient experience of teachers.The author, thus, suggests that the view be essentially renovated to avoid its historical failure and help today's schooling education to correct its ineffective and consuming "direct moral instruction".
