"Technical dilemma" and "fitness dilemma" have become tough nuts to crack for physical education in China. The school of fitness education is an important modern school of physical education teaching in China, and its theories and practice formed for 30 years will provide new references and inspirations for physical education teaching in China, to help China get out of the dilemmas. The authors focused on elaborating the social background for the formation of the school of fitness education, as well as its development courses, contributions and limitations, and put forward that "fitness class" should become a new direction for physical education curriculum reform in the future.
