唐承隋制，实行崇圣尊儒的文教政策。礼部负责贯彻实施，制定相应的教育政令和措施、规划；国子监则根据礼部颁行的政令法规管理六学。唐代中央官学大致可分为普通教育与特殊教育两个系统，这一体系是一个从低级到高级、规范完备的学制系统，实行的是一种精英教育。中央官学的授课内容以儒家经学为主。儒家的宗法伦理观念对维护和加强唐代封建统治产生了巨大的作用。

Tang Dynasty inherited many systems of Sui Dynasty. The Ministry of Rites at Tang Dynasty was in charge of carrying out education decrees, issuing official orders and developing programs, and taking corresponding measures to enable the implementation of worshiping Saints and ConIiacianism. On the basis of it, the Imperial College popularized and supervised the implementation of the six traditional branches of learning. The central public schools, administrated by central government, were roughly divided into two systems——general education and special education.They both belonged to elites'education and had a complete, systematic and hierarchical schooling system. The ruling class of Tang Dynasty exercised strict control over teaching contents by primarily instructing Confucian classics in order to maintain and enhance its feudal rule.
