During the Great Leap Forward(GLF) period, Guangdong province implemented "the system of labour and defence"(SLD), which experienced four stages:the stage of full implementation, the stage of in-depth development, the climax stage and the declining stage. The practice had gained obvious achievements, meanwhile some problems also existed. With firm belief in historical materialism, we should make a comprehensive and objective evaluation of the SLD in Guangdong Province during the GLF period, conscientiously sum up experiences and lessons, thus providing reference for the reform and development of social causes.
