笔试测验可以分为两种：主观评定测验和客观评定测验。论文式测验属于主观评定测验，回答不是非常明确的“是”或“不是”，但要求评分者对回答的内容、组织以及完整性都要作出适当的评定。相反，客观评定测验是运用事实，它要求明确回答“是”或“不是”。是非题测验、填空题测验都属于客观评定测验。
英语语境:
Written tests can be divided into two categories: subjective assessment tests and objective assessment tests. Essay tests belong to the first category, in which the answer is not the definite “yes“ or “no“, but require raters to make an appropriate assessment according to the content, organization, and integrity of the answer. On the contrary, objective assessment tests are to use the fact and require a definite “yes“ or “no“. True or false tests and gap filling tests are both objective assessment tests.
