美国著名汉学家高友工在《中国律诗美学》一文中提出了“镜像”效果说，这对于重新理解传统的近体诗声律，提供了一个形象生动的西方批评式解释，因而对于美国当代的汉学研究产生了影响。但是高友工发现了一面镜子，却没有找出是谁放置了这面镜子，所以“镜像”论并没有揭示出声律的本质特性。中国的声律实际上体现了道的演化，它表现了律诗平仄的内在运动。
英语语境:
Yu-Kung Kao, a famous sinologist in American, discovered a mirror effect on tonal patterns of Chinese regulated verse, which provided a new perspective to understand the tonal patterns, and gave an important influence on contemporary American sinology. However, although Yu-Kung Kao found a mirror, he could not find out the man who placed it. So the mirror effect theory has not been discovered the nature of the tonal patterns. The tonal patterns, in fact, emboy the evolution of Tao, and it is formed by inner force of tones movement.
