Solution of aqueous extract of sediment samples was doped with a number of heavy metals, such as Cu, Cd, Zn, Pb and Ni. The experiment was conducted for the purpose of investigating the joint toxicity of multiple heavy metals to luminescent bacteria. This paper described the experiment in which the factorial design was used, and the experimental results were analyzed using variance analysis and multiple linear regressions, which led to a model that could depict the relationship between heavy metal concentration and the luminescent bacteria inhibition ratio. The modeling results showed that different groups of heavy metals (binary and ternary) have different synergetic effects on the joint toxicity to luminescent bacteria, which could provide references for the control and abatement of the heavy metal in water.
