The purpose of this study was to compare the sympathetic nervous activity and adrenaline secretion between male and female long-distancerunners after a supramaximal exercise (Wingate test). Fourteen subjects took part in this study: seven male and seven female subjects. The male group exhibited higher performances than the female during the test as shown by their higher values of peak power and mean power. There was no difference between the male and the female concerning the basal or maximal levels of E or NE. These results indicated that sympathetic nervous activity and adrenaline secretion were similar in male and female long-distance runners although the test performances were higher in the male than the female.
